Colour and Light                                      2007 Andy McGaw

Hey Donna come over put your head on my shoulder
And tell me your reason for crying
Your plan for the city has left you for pity
No matter how hard you were trying
But your child like spirit did bloom in the summer
And your painting held colour and light
But your golden path now in the cold autumn wind now
Is nothing but fallen autumn leaves

The city is dark as the river in the winter
And cold as the unanswered smiles
But you came for the money dear you came for the honey
Though the bees they did sting you sometimes
Now you face your decision it’s a head heart collision
On the corner of blindness and sight
So pack up your pallet and your empty wallet
And your gift in your paintings of colour and light

Ya the city is dark as the river in the winter
Cold as the unanswered smiles
But you came for the money dear you came for the honey dear
Though the bees they did sting you sometimes

But come back in June dear with me you can stay here
And we’ll brew your green tea in the morning time
And we’ll line up your paintings out in the park
When the tulips are blooming in springtime
And we’ll sit in the sunshine we’ll drink from the good wine
And everything is coming in sight
And the people in passing will stop and amaze at your gift
In your paintings of colour and light
